The folk handicraft industry have long enjoyed a good reputation at home and abroad, especially its Three Treasures,i.e.knifes,lacquer wares and fermented soya beans, The hardware and knife and scissor trade is one of the most featuring and advantageous traditional trades in Yangjiang. By 2002, there are totally 1,300-odd hardware and knife and scissor makers, sharing 60 per cent of the national output and 80 per cent of the ntional export volume.The China's Center of Kitchen Knife,Scissor Center and Center of Pen Knife successively settled in Yangjiang city and some famous brands were also born here,such as the Shibaizi Brand kitchen knife, Yangyang Brand scissors and Yongguang Brand knife. In 2001, Yangjiang was honored the title of China City of Scissors by China Association of Productivity Promotion Centers and National Hardware Productivity Promotion Center of P.R.C.
The local handicraft on making knives and scis-sors has a 1,400-odd-year presence and passes on generatrions and generations. Dating back to early 1920s, the local Hequanli branded kitchen knife and Zhifa branded scissors enjoyed a good fame. Shifting to the forties, it is said that people at that time were proud of possessing a Jifu branded knife. Since the establishment of New China,the knife ware industry sped up its development pace. In 1980s,the state-run Yangjiang Knife Factory has upgraded into one of the most domestically largest makers.Since the reform and opening , the knife and scissor industry experienced an explosive development and a large batch of private enterprises rose up rapidly, especially Yangjiang Shi Ba Zi Kitchen Ware Manufacturing Co.,Ltd.,Guangdong Grade Eagle (Group) Co.,Ltd.and Yangxi Zhang Yongguang(Group) Co.,Ltd .and Yangxi Zhang Yong guang(Group) Co., Ltd.In 2002, the 1st International Knife and Scissor Exposition was successfully held in Yangjiang and an annual regular meeting will be held here,too.Now,local people are striving for developing Yangjiang into centers of production,research and development ,testing and exhibition as well as a logistic base in the manufacturing industry on hardward,knife and scissor.
